Local Leaders

This is an ACTIVE club for 2023-2024.

What is this club about?

Local Leaders of the 21st century is a club that is backed by the national organization Go Green Initiative. The club’s primary purpose is to serve as a public policy platform to educate students about the importance of actionable change to fight global environmental issues such as climate change, air pollution, waste contamination, and water distribution. Local Leaders introduces students at Foothill to larger scale environmental concerns and provides them with opportunities to conduct their own research on such issues, meet with guest speakers specialized in the industry, and participate in local community events. As a club, we have set up and run Farmers’ Market booths, had guest speakers from the City Council’s Climate Action Committee, and attended a National Summit with other Local Leaders chapters throughout the nation. Working with the Go Green Initiative, Local Leaders has been able to organize Farmers’ Market Booths, speak at City Council meetings, and work on the City of Pleasanton Waste Reduction project proposal. We are the only environmental justice and public policy club on campus and hope to continue our mission of educating students and bringing awareness to Pleasanton residents through our various projects.
