Mental Health Awareness

This is an ACTIVE club for 2023-2024.

What is this club about?

Mental Health Awareness Club’s goals are to educate students on the importance of their mental health and help them overcome their mental health problems. We will hold meetings every other Monday during lunch in Ms. Wharton's classroom. Since this is a member-focused club, there will be no requirements for membership. For the first half of the meetings, we will present slideshows on different mental health disorders. Many people have general understandings of common types of disorders, but they do not have much knowledge on details crucial in distinguishing different types of disorders. During the second half of the meetings, we will organize activities that relieve stress, such as folding origami, cooking mini waffles, and even crocheting. We will provide music and snacks to create a calming environment for our members to take breaks from their hectic lives. Mental Health Awareness Club is looking to partner with the Wellness Center. The Wellness Center holds education and flex workshops that cover stress management, mindfulness, anxiety, and other topics. As a student-led organization, Mental Health Awareness Club will promote these workshops to our members so that more people have access to such helpful resources. We will inform them on the Wellness Center’s support groups, Doggie Drop Ins, and individual counseling. These are great resources but many students do not know of them. The Wellness Center’s support specialist and other faculties are amazing but some students are most comfortable with their peers rather than adults. Since we understand that different students have different needs, we want to collaborate with the Wellness Center to provide them with their respective support and resources.
